With the kitchen often being the hub of the home, it is normal for it to get a little crazy, over-stocked and, in some cases, overwhelming. Therefore, it is essential that every few months (not just in the early spring) you give your kitchen a full-on Spring clean.

4 Pro Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Kitchen

The daunting thought of tackling the cleaning of your kitchen can be as overwhelming as the disorganized mess; however, there are a ton of tips for spring cleaning your kitchen. Here are Kitchen Depot’s top 4 tips to keep your kitchen looking brand new all year round:

1. Clear Surfaces

A good starting point for your big kitchen spring clean would be clearing the decks; this requires returning all kitchen appliances to their original places. A cluttered, untidy kitchen is difficult to work in; therefore, it is of utmost importance that everything has its own place. We recommend talking all items off of cupboards and shelves and rearranging them an orderly manner. Whilst clearing your drawers and shelves, mix equal parts of hot water and vinegar, wipe down all surfaces and leave to dry completely to give your kitchen its original shine back.

2. Wash the Walls & Windows

Using a long-handled feather duster, remove any dust or build-up on the roof and in ceiling corners. Wash the walls with a warm, soapy solution and, when tackling stubborn dirt, a mixture of white vinegar and hot water- remember to wash from top to bottom to avoid getting dust and dirt in the already clean areas. Washing the windows and curtains will instantly improve your kitchens overall look. Remove window coverings, launder curtains or wipe down blinds to remove any dust that has blown in and settled through open doors and windows. When washing the windows, simply spray inside and outside with window cleaner and dry with a soft cloth.

3. Clear Out Your Fridge

Fridges need spring cleaning too! Start by removing everything from inside your refrigerator and begin grouping similar items on the kitchen floor. For example, you will group all your fruits together, vegetables together and dairy products such as butter, cheese and yoghurt. Discard any expired or suspect foods. Next, wash any removable parts in warm, soapy water, whilst paying attention to any grooves where dirt collects- you can use a toothbrush for the hard-to-reach areas. If certain foods have left an odour in your fridge, leave an open box of baking powder to remove them. Also, remember to wipe down all jars and containers before returning them to their places.

4. Keep the Floor Shiny

Whilst your kitchen’s floor may not seem like an important area in your kitchen spring clean, this area also needs attention in order to keep your kitchen hygienic. Leave no corner untouched- unplug the freezer, fridge and any other appliances standing on the floor. Once you have moved these appliances, vacuum and mop thoroughly using a solution of 1 cup white vinegar and a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid. Fun fact: vinegar is a natural disinfectant and odour remover, and its scent disappears as it dries. If you want to remove any stains or stubborn marks, we suggest you use a mop with nylon bristles.
