Kitchen Depot is sharing 4 tips on kitchen cleanliness to keep you and your family safe now and always. Stick to the4 tips in this blog to ensure that your home is germ-free. From food preparation stations to equipment, we will teach you how to keep them clean and sterilized.

1. Disinfect Your Sink & Washing Equipment

Disinfecting a sink is extremely quick and easy. As often as you can, fill your empty sink with some warm water. Add a tablespoon of bleach and leave for around five minutes. Once this has been done, empty the sink before giving it a rinse with cold water and allowing to air dry.

2. Sanitize All Work Surfaces

This is a regular MUST. The kitchen counter is where most germs and bacteria congregate. Whether from unwashed hands or raw meat liquid or egg left on the surface, other food can be infected if they come into contact. You need to wipe down surfaces after every use. A cost-effective method is to dip a clean cloth into undiluted white vinegar. You need to use enough vinegar to leave the countertop damp. Let it sit for a while before wiping the counter down again with a damp cloth to remove the substance before drying the surface with a dry cloth.

3. Sanitize Cutting Boards After Every Use

Cutting boards need to be correctly sanitized after every use, especially if meat was used. Wooden cutting boards are especially known for germ harbouring, as liquids can seep into the wood. After using a cutting board, wash thoroughly with soap and warm water before rinsing. You can also occasionally or regularly disinfect it by spraying on some white vinegar, letting it sit before rinsing off.

4. Regularly Clean Out Your Fridge

Very often liquids and leftover food find their way onto the shelves of your fridge, this can cause bad smells and bacteria. It is important to carefully monitor any spills in the fridge to wipe up immediately. Once a week you need to clear out all the food that has gone bad to prevent them from infecting other exposed items and giving off a bad odour. It is also advised to occasionally remove the contents of the fridge to give it a proper clean and scrub; having a hygienic fridge is extremely easy!
